Jabbawockeez are Champions

Who says Filipinos can't dance? Filipinos have been rippin' it in the hip-hop dance scene for years. The Jabbawockeez proved their west coast Pinoy pride by winning the whole thing on Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew on MTV. The whole country supported them by casting their votes leading up to the finale. They won the grand prize of $100,000 and braggin' rights. They set the bar for dance crews for the second season. Be sure to check out their website with the link at the top. Also check out this YouTube video reppin' the west coast with Kabba Modern, Fish'n'Chicks and E-40's Tell Me When to Go.

Geneva Cruz singing Philippine National Anthem at Manny Pacquiao fight

In this YouTube video the beautiful Geneva Cruz is singing the Philippine National Anthem at a Manny Pacquiao fight. This video is awesome not just because she's a a good singer, but the way she sings the Phillippine National Anthem. After watching this video it made me so proud and nearly brought me to tears. I got goosebumps from watching her sing over the audiences' boos and cheers. Her voice was strong and intense. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

Ramiele Malubay - American Idol Pinay

Remiele Malubay is one of the hottest top 10 girls on American Idol Season 7. But what's even better she's one bad ass Filipina (aka Pinay). She's 20 year's old and from Miramar, FL. Unlike many Americanized Filipinos, this girl can speak Tagalog and even sing the Philippines National Anthem. I'd love to see her sing the Philippine National Anthem at a Manny Pacquiao (World Champion Boxer) fight. She's a beautiful and strong Pinay, so be sure to vote and show your support for her on American Idol.

Jabbawockees

Jabba who? Jabbawockeez!!! If you don't know already they're one of the baddest and freshest hip-hop dance crews in the United States. This crew is representin' Filipinos to the fullest from San Diego, CA. They're currently one of the two final crews in the MTV Show "Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew". But they've been icons in the Filipino community for years by rippin it at tons of Pilipino Cultural Nights (aka PCNs) across the country.

Some of the members are originally from Sacramento, CA. I even remember some the old Filipino dance crews like Chain Reaction which I think one of the members used to be part of. Brings back hella memories when I used to watch MindTricks, Kaboom Squad, Jedi Clan, Jughead, Rock So Fresh Crew, Full Force, Boogie Monstarz, Kandi Girls, Shortkut and so many more that I can't remember.

Check this YouTube video out, but also listen to the flips in the back making silly ass comments. Hella tight!!!

Be sure to show your support and vote for them!!!!

Kaba Modern Eliminated on Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew

Kaba Modern was recently eliminated from the MTV show Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew. This hip-hop group is one the best in the country. Their roots are from a Filipino-American club at the University of California Irvine where they performed at their yearly Pilipino Culture Nights (aka PCNs).

You can find tons of past video performances on YouTube.

Here's a brief history from their website:

Kaba Modern is a street dance group established in 1992 by a group of Kababayans at the University of California in Irvine, originally to perform at their Pilipino Culture Night. Since then, the group's legacy has lived on, first and foremost as a family, embracing different styles and aspects of dance, creating quite a name for themselves as one of Southern California's most cutting edge dance groups.

As our family grew, so did our need to express our art to a broader spectrum of audience, taking our performances out as far as the Bay Area and down to San Diego. Kaba Modern's dedication to dance and to each other help create a unique energy that shines on stage and off, providing them with the charisma that they are so well known for. Each year's team is full of new faces adding new dynamics to the team as never seen before... Often imitated, never duplicated...UCI's very own Kaba Modern.

Check out their web page on MTV.

No History No Self

The saying "No History No Self" was a common term used when I began college while attending many Filipino-American (aka Fil-Am) community events that involved history, music, politics, and culture. Growing up as a Filipino, I felt I didn't know enough of my heritage. Indeed I was Filipino by blood and experienced many Filipino cultural activities, but I really had no sense in the past history of my heritage. I've assimilated myself into American culture. However, I hung around lots of Filipinos.

Without knowing and appreciating the past am I truly Filipino? It's a big debate not only with Filipinos, but with many Americanized cultures. What's your opinion?
